Cinema Akil

Cinema Akil is an independent cinema platform that brings quality films from across the world to audiences at Alserkal Avenue. From fully fledged film festivals to one-off special screenings and exclusive events, this is a cinema experience you won't find anywhere else in the UAE. Every film that is screened in the converted shipping container is personally chosen by the cinema's founder Butheina Kazim for its artistic integrity, often reflecting social issues or addressing topical themes.

By showcasing directors and films from across the decades, Cinema Akil aims to create awareness and interest in film and the cinematic arts. Launched in 2014, the one-screen cinema is a cosy experience with plush couches, incredible audio, and vintage posters adorning the walls. Seating is unassigned, so might sure to arrive a little early.

The cinema's foyer is also a coffee stop in its own right. Run by Project Chaiwala, the hip café destination has a range of specialities from the wider region, such as saffron chais, turmeric lattes and sweet potato masala fries.
