Is shopping in Dubai tax-free?
Despite the introduction of a 5% VAT in 2018, Dubai offers tax-free shopping for tourists. Tourists need to spend a minimum of AED250 to claim VAT refunds, which are applicable only to goods purchased during their stay in the UAE and intended for export. Refunds take place upon departure via land, sea or air, but they are not eligible for consumed items, or goods not accompanied by the tourist upon leaving the country.
