Running from rom 4 February to 4 April at The Third Line, Alserkal Avenue, Simurgh Self-Help is the third solo exhibition by acclaimed artist collective Slavs and Tatar. The display draws inspiration from Marcel Broodthaers’ Musee d'Art Moderne - Departement des Aigles (1968-1972), reinterpreting the eagle through the lens of Simurgh, a mystical bird rooted in Turkic and Persianate mythology.
Gallery One delves into the story of Simurgh, often depicted with the body of a peacock and head of a dog. Shifting the focus to melons, reinterpreted as vessels of knowledge and history in Central Asia, Gallery Two offers a botanical narrative of the region, positioning flora as a storyteller alongside fauna.
Known for their fascination with the peripheries of knowledge and belief systems, Slavs and Tatars' Simurgh Self-Help finds common ground between cultural hybridity and human experience.
