Meena Bazaar

Traditional shopping at Bur Dubai's own little India

For South Asian fashion and handicrafts at the best prices, Meena Bazaar is the go-to shopping hub. Located primarily along one lane in the Bur Dubai district, this tourist and resident hotspot is nestled between Al Fahidi Street and Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road.

The market is said to have got its name from the signboard of one its first stores, perched at the entrance of the lane in 1973. Often labelled as 'Bur Dubai’s Little India', Meena Bazaar transports you to the past with its colourful storefronts and views of the historic Dubai Creek.

Shop for traditional wares at Meena Bazaar

You’ll find hundreds of merchants selling fabric on reels, ready-made traditional garments, shoes, jewellery and bags. Among the bustling alleys, you can discover some of Dubai’s oldest gold and textile businesses. Visit Meena Jewellers, one of the most popular gold shops in the area, known for its legacy and craft.

You’ll also find furniture, ceramics, perfumes and spices. If you feel hungry, sample some of the authentic snacks sold here for just a few dirhams, from crispy samosas to flavourful chaats. Carry a big bag if you plan on shopping here and dress in lightly covering garments and comfortable shoes.

Best time to visit Meena Bazaar

Meena Bazaar's shops tend to open every day, usually from 10:30am until late at night (although it's best to check with individual stores), so you can visit at your convenience. The market is particularly atmospheric at night, so that's an ideal time to visit. Depending on what you'd like to purchase, account for a couple of hours in this bustling lane.

Nearby hotels and restaurants

With a location in the heart of Bur Dubai, you'll never be left wanting for great street food and authentic bites from a variety of cuisines. Some of our favourites in the neighbourhood are the likes of Sind Punjab for the best Punjabi chicken tikka in the city and Arabian Tea House for your dose of Emirati food.

You also have plenty of options for a relaxing stay in the area. Al Seef Heritage Hotel is a great choice, with its architecture and design a nod to a bygone era. Within Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, you can opt for a truly boutique experience with just 14 rooms in XVA Art Hotel. In the opposite direction, in the Al Shindagha neighbourhood, Arabian Boutique Hotel is the perfect option for guests seeking an Emirati experience.

Find antiques, souvenirs and interesting trinkets at neighbouring souks and open markets.
