There's a reason the Al Gaffal Long Distance Race celebrates its 33rd anniversary this May — it's hugely popular and is an integral part of the traditional water sports scene. This May, see over 100 skilled boatsmen steer 60ft dhows from Sir Bu Na'air all the way to Dubai. 

A staple of the city's sporting calendar, this meet pays homage to the UAE's maritime and pearl-diving history and also highlights the importance of the sea in shaping the society, culture and economy. Visitors can enjoy a host of activities, including an exhibition by Mustafa Al Fardan at the Al Gaffal Village Tent at Jumeirah Beach, near the iconic Burj Al Arab. With a prize purse that runs into millions and also includes luxury cars, this unmissable spectacle sees Emirati competitors carrying on their ancestor's heritage, and is the perfect sign-off to Dubai International Marine Club's (DIMC) season.
