Deira Waterfront Market

A must-visit market for adventurous foodies

The bustling Deira Waterfront Market is one every foodie's checklist. Although it has always been a popular souk and a visitor favourite for many years, recent renovations have resulted in a much bigger and better establishment.

The original Deira Fish Market – which served customers since 1958 – underwent a modern-day upgrade in mid-2017, resulting in the birth of a state-of-the-art urban facility with the charm of a traditional marketplace.

What to expect at Deira Waterfront Market

The area is divided into different sections – each selling the freshest produce – such as fish and seafood, fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, and dry goods and spices. Visitors can browse a magnificent assortment of lobster, kingfish and pomfret at the premises and fill up bags of fresh catch at wholesale prices. Haggle at the stalls and pick up lamb, beef and chicken in a variety of cuts and local and exotic fruits and vegetables of high quality. As you wander down the aisles, you’ll see the day's haul being cleaned and prepared.

Although the market is open 24 hours a day, the best time to visit is early morning when everything on sale is fresh, or late evening when the prices are at their best. You can’t leave Dubai without experiencing the vibrant sights, sounds and smells of the classic souks, which bring the city to life. There's also a Lulu Hypermarket within the same complex – fully stocked with a range of household goods, bakery items, food products and more.

Dine out at Deira Waterfront Market

Seafood fans can buy a fish of their choice and head over to eateries like Paluta or Yahya Seafood Restaurant to get it cooked on the spot. Nearby, Sea Chef Restaurant serves up seafood favourites and Indian specialities while Tabs Unforgettable Biryani is the place to go if you love the rice-based dish.

Nearby attractions

One of the closest sights near Deira Waterfront Market is Dubai Islands, a mixed-use development which currently hosts public pet-friendly beach and a number of hotels such as Centara Mirage Beach Resort Dubai and Hotel Riu Dubai, the latter of which also has a waterpark.

The market is also a short car or bus ride away from the souks dotted across Deira's neighbourhood, such as Spice Souk and Gold Souk, which deliver the sights and sounds of old Dubai.
