As far as locations go, there's no denying the allure of Dubai Marina. Skyscrapers are poised alongside the winding canal, where luxury yachts patiently wait for their next outing. The area – which extends from Al Sufouh Road and includes Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) – has forged itself as one of the city's most popular neighbourhoods. Naturally, there's plenty to do but here are some highlights to help you get started.
Go on a cruise
What better way to explore the wonderful water neighbourhood than on a cruise? Climb aboard a traditional dhow boat and explore the waterways of Dubai Marina with Captain Jack. The cruise departs every hour from the Marina Promenade. The spacious vessel allows voyagers to sprawl out on bean bags as it meanders along, showing off the area’s incredible architecture and scenery, before making its way to the outskirts of Palm Jumeirah island.
For a VIP experience, book an evening cruise with Xclusive Yachts. Departing at 8:30pm nightly from Pier 7 in Dubai Marina, visitors will enjoy a gourmet menu aboard a 125-foot yacht. Try to book a seat on the upper deck for the best views.
Shop, eat and swim
An impressive outdoor entertainment development located directly opposite JBR's The Walk is The Beach. A hive of activity, its modern, low-rise design elevates the enviable beachside location and there are more than 70 shopping and dining options to try, including popular Emirati eatery Yalseh. Buy some souvenirs at I Love Dubai, then enjoy a quick swim in the sea or play sports on the sand. Afterwards, refuel on grilled seafood at Mediterranean restaurant Eat Greek, or diner classics, including burgers and salads, at Retro Beach.
If you’re in the mood to explore further, Bluewaters Island – home to the world’s second Caesars Palace and the chic Cove Beach club – is just a quick 15-minute walk from The Beach.
Enjoy alfresco dining
For sunshine-filled meals to remember, you’ll be spoilt for choice at Dubai Marina Walk. One of the highlights here is Bateel Cafe – famed for its gourmet dates. It’s the perfect culinary pit-stop thanks to its fine European-inspired cuisine and date-infused creations.
Nearby, Pier 7 has carved out a name for itself as one of the city's most exclusive dining hubs. Seven dining concepts occupy the seven floors of the all-glass cylindrical structure adjacent to Dubai Marina Mall. Check out Bedrock where you can play against your crew in fun games. Afterwards, you can keep the party going at Pier 7’s Cargo or Asia Asia.
Fly over the marina at high-speed
Forget simply scoping out the marina from a tall building. The world’s longest urban zipline opened in 2017, and thrill-seekers have been flocking to it ever since. The team from XLine Dubai Marina runs flights from 170m up one of JBR’s Amwaj Towers, across to the other side of the waterway on top of Marina Mall, every day of the year. With participants reaching speeds of up to 80km/hr as they hurtle across the water, it’s not an activity for the faint-hearted.
Shop for high-street favourites
Dubai Marina Mall is a community favourite with a children’s play centre, exceptional dining and an edit of essential high street stores such as H&M, COS and River Island. While bustling, especially on weekends, it’s the ideal place to browse and shop to your leisure. Families with young kids will also want to check out Little Explorers – an edutainment sanctuary for children between the ages of two to seven.
The outdoor area by the mall also hosts seasonal events, including street carnivals, alfresco cinema celebrations and music festivals.

Make time for pools and pampering
If you're looking to catch some rays at a beach club or pool, Dubai Marina has plenty of options. Take a dip in the record-breaking Zeta Seventy Seven infinity pool or keep your toes in the sand at adults-only entertainment emporium Bla Bla, which offers an array of lounges and restaurants or lets you pick a lounger by the pool or beach. By day, W Dubai – Mina Seyahi's Ginger Moon is ideal for topping up your tan, transforming at dusk as DJs and performers take to the decks. And, if you're looking for something more energetic, conquer the inflatable Aquafun Water Park obstacle course.
The five-star Ritz-Carlton Dubai Spa is known for its signature massages and luxe facilities, ensuring guests check in and properly chill out. For something more low-key, Dreamworks Spa will ensure all your knots are eased away thanks to highly-trained, professional therapists.
